Italian 201 April 2019

If you have not previously taken classes with Valenti Lingua you may need to complete both an oral and written assessment prior to enrolling in ITA 201. The oral assessment can be taken via Skype or in person. Please call Valenti Lingua at 480 628-0165 to schedule an appointment.

Dates and times: Classes start April 1st. We’ll meet on Monday evenings from 6:30 pm to 8:50 pm.  The course will conclude on June 10th. (10 sessions). Classes are audio recorded and distributed to students making it easier for students to stay current in case of a few absences.

Location: Classes are offered in a classroom near Lincoln and Scottsdale Rd. The exact address will be sent to students who have submitted an enrollment form.

A little information about the class:

Italian 201 is structured as a fourth semester Italian class. A main focus of this class will be conversation, the future tense, the verb “piacere”, double object pronouns, the present conditional, and past conditional. Homework will be assigned on a weekly basis, but there won’t be any grades. Students are expected to complete all homework assignments and prepare for class. Student preparation in 201 is a prerequisite for admission into the subsequent ITA 202 class. Our goal will be to cover chapters 12 – 14 of our text. Italian 201 will also provide a solid foundation for those who wish to continue to study Italian with Valenti Lingua upon completion of 201. Students who have not completed Italian 103 with Valenti Lingua may need to take an oral and written assessment test prior to enrollment. All homework assignments will be sent via email. Once enrolled I will send students the first set of assignments for the first class. A digital audio recording of classes will be made available to students in case of an absence. Students have found these recordings to be helpful.

Cost for the program: Tuition is $375.00. Payment and enrollment forms are due by 11:00 pm, Friday, March 22nd. Enrollment closes at 11:00 pm. Students must be at least 18 years of age or have permission of the instructor to enroll

Textbook Information:

“Ciao” 6th edition by Carla Larese Riga. Used copies are available, and I would encourage you to purchase a used copy to keep the cost down. You do not need the CD or DVD that may accompany some of the used texts. However, you are welcome to purchase a text that comes with these supplements if you’d like. Again, be sure to get the 6th edition.  Feel free to shop around.

A membership to the  language learning website Yabla will be required. Students may obtain a considerable discount by purchasing a membership through me once the class begins.  Students will be given different options at the beginning of our course. I’d suggest waiting until the course begins prior to purchasing a subscription.

How to Enroll:

1) Complete and sign the enrollment form attached. Please return it as an attachment in an email to valentidavide@yahoo.com. Include your full name, phone number, email, and signature. A payment request with the address of the class will be sent to students who have submitted the enrollment form. Students are only enrolled once both the enrollment form and payment have been received. Students will be given the option of paying by Venmo or the “Zellepay.com” service. Both services are safe and free of any fees. If your bank doesn’t participate in the Zellepay service, you can use Venmo. Credit card payments will not be accepted for this class. 

2) Once enrolled, refunds will not be issued, and classes will not be prorated. In the event the class is cancelled due to an insufficient number of students (very unlikely), those who have paid will receive a prompt and full refund. Tuition for Italian 201 can only be applied to the Italian 201 class taught from April to June of 2018. The tuition cannot be used as credit for other classes or private lessons in the event that a student enrolls in this course and does not attend (regardless of the student’s excuse).

Student preparation in 103 is a prerequisite for admission into the subsequent ITA 201 class. Our goal will be to cover chapters 8 – 10 of our text. Italian 103 will also provide a solid foundation for those who wish to continue to study Italian with Valenti Lingua upon completion of 103. Homework will be assigned on a weekly basis. Students are expected to complete the class assignments and prepare for class in order to progress to ITA 103. There won’t be any grades issued. This class is perfect for those who have completed Italian 101 with Valenti Lingua. This is a structured class, taught to accommodate the pace of the group. Italian 102 will aid those who are travelling to Italy by teaching basic grammar and vocabulary necessary for conversing in Italian. Our goal will be to cover chapters 5 – 7 of our text. Italian 102 will also provide a solid foundation for those who wish to continue to study Italian with me upon completion of this course. Students who have not completed Italian 101 with Valenti Lingua may need to take an oral and written assessment test prior to enrolling in 102. All homework assignments will be sent via email. Once enrolled I will send students the first set of assignments for the first class. A digital audio recording of classes will be made available to students in case of an absence. Classes are audio recorded and distributed to students making it easier for students to stay current in case of a few absences.

Italian 101 is structured as a first semester beginning Italian class. There will be homework assigned on a weekly basis, but no grades will be issued. This class is perfect for a beginner with no previous Italian language experience, or for those at an elementary level who need to review basic Italian language and grammar. This is a structured class, taught to accommodate the pace of the group. Italian 101 will aid those who desire to begin speaking and understanding Italian by teaching basic grammar and vocabulary. Our goal will be to cover the first 4 units of our text. Italian 101 will also provide a solid foundation for those who wish to continue studying Italian with me upon completion of this course. Beginning Italian courses tend to fill up fast. A spot in the class will be reserved only once both the payment and enrollment form have been received.

Tuition is $375.00 per student. Payment is due by Tuesday, April 9th, at 11:00 pm. Don’t delay and run the risk of the class filling up before you enroll.
