Italian Classes in Scottsdale / Paradise Valley (Indian Bend & Scottsdale Road).

Below you’ll find a list of the Italian classes I will be offering in the fall. These courses are held in a classroom in Scottsdale (near Indian Bend & Scottsdale Rd). Beginning Italian 1A – Wednesday evenings, starting September 21st to December 14th, from 6:30pm to 8:45pm (First year, first semester class) Cost: 295.00. Enrollment ends Sept. 4th.

Italian 1B – Thursday evenings, September 29th to December 15th, from 6:30 – 8:45 (first year, second semester class) Cost: 295.00. Enrollment ends September 15th.

Italian 2B – Monday evenings, starting October 17th to December 19th, (Second year, second semester class) Cost: 295.00. Enrollment ends September 19th.

Classes start Wednesday evening, September 21st. We’ll meet on Wednesdays from 6:30 pm to 8:45pm.  The course will conclude on December 14th. (12, two hour plus sessions).

Classes are held in a classroom near Indian Bend and Scottsdale Rd. The exact address will be sent to students who have started the enrollment process by completing and returning the attached enrollment form. We’ll have a classroom with white boards, tables, chairs, air conditioning and plenty of parking. We have all the amenities we need for a comfortable and successful class.

A little information about the class:

Beginning Italian 1A is structured as a first semester beginning Italian class. No prior knowledge of Italian is necessary. There will be homework assignments, but no tests, exams or grades. This class is perfect for a beginner with no previous Italian language experience, or for those at an elementary level who need to review basic Italian language and grammar. This is a structured class, taught to accommodate the pace of the group. It is a great introduction to Italian. This course will aid those who are travelling to Italy by teaching basic grammar and vocabulary necessary for conversing in Italian. Our goal will be to cover the first 5 units of the text. Beginning Italian 1 will also provide a solid foundation for those who wish to continue to study Italian upon completion of this course. I do plan on offering a continuation of this course once the class ends.

Cost for the program: $295.00 per student. Beginning Italian 1 tends to fill up fast. A spot in the class can only be secured once the student’s payment and enrollment form have been received. Payment is due by Sunday, September 4th. Enrollment closes at 11:00 pm. Don’t delay and run the risk of the class filling up before you enroll. These classes do fill, and I have to turn away students. Students must be at least 18 years of age or have permission of the instructor to enroll.

Textbook Information:

“Ciao” 6th edition by Carla Larese Riga. Used copies are available, and I would encourage you to purchase a used copy to keep the cost down. You do not need the CD or DVD that may accompany some of the used texts. However, you are welcome to purchase a text that comes with these supplements if you’d like. Again, be sure to get the 6th edition, and feel free to shop around.

How to Enroll:

Please read the following steps for enrolling and the refund policy below. Be sure to have read the entire email prior to proceeding with enrollment.

1) Complete and sign the enrollment form attached. Please return it as an attachment in an email.  Please include your full name, phone number, email, and signature. If you are enrolling a friend or spouse please have that person complete and return an enrollment form as well. A payment request with the address of the class will be sent to students who have already submitted the enrollment form. Students are only enrolled once both the enrollment form and payment  have been received.

2) Once enrolled, refunds will not be issued, and classes will not be prorated. In the event the class is cancelled due to an insufficient number of students (very unlikely), those who have paid will receive a prompt and full refund. Tuition for Beginning Italian I can only be applied to the Beginning Italian I class taught from September to December of 2016. The tuition cannot be used as credit for other classes or private lessons in the event that a student enrolls in this course and does not attend (regardless of the student’s excuse).

We will cover chapters 6 – 9 of the text Ciao, 6th Edition. This course will aid those who are travelling to Italy by teaching basic grammar and vocabulary necessary for conversing in Italian. Beginning Italian 1B will also provide a solid foundation for those who wish to continue to study Italian upon completion of this course. I do plan on offering a continuation of this course once the class ends.

Cost for the program: $295.00 per student . A spot in the class is only reservied once the student has both paid and submitted an enrollment form. Payment is due by Thursday, September 15th. Italian 2 is structured as a fourth semester class. There will be homework assignments, but no tests, exams or grades. This class is perfect for those who have completed Beginning Italian 2A. This is a structured class, taught to accommodate the pace of the group. This course will aid those who are travelling to Italy by teaching basic grammar and vocabulary necessary for conversing in Italian. Our goal will be to cover units 14  through 16 (3 chapters) of the text Ciao 6th Edition. The previous chapters are covered in the preceeding three classes. Students taking this class should already have a working knowledge of the present tense, the “passato prossimo” tense, and the imperfect tense, as well as other basic grammar typically taught during the first three classes. Students should be able to construct basic sentences in the present and past and have a good grasp of the object pronouns covered in chapters 11- 13. This class will also emphasize conversation more than the previous classes leading up to Italian 2B. Please feel free to call me as well to discuss this class in further detail.

I am once again teaching an Italian Cinema class. Each time I’ve taught this class it has been very well received by students. This course is just as much a language class as it is a cinema class. Italian films are used as a tool to help students improve their language skills in the following areas: listening comprehension, speaking, vocabulary, sentence structure, and grammar. All of this is accomplished in an entertaining way. Five classes will be devoted to viewing Italian films with English subtitles. The other classes will focus on film discussions in Italian, on correcting the homework, and on using the language used in the films to help students enhance their Italian language skills. We will also review some of the scenes of the films we’ve viewed.

Films will be shown on the odd weeks (starting the with the first class) and the film discussions and reviewing of homework will take place on the even weeks. As an example we would view film A on week one. The following week we would discuss the film and correct the homework that was assigned on film A. There is homework assigned after each film has been viewed.This class is ideal for an intermediate or advanced student of Italian, but beginners are also welcome. Beginners can audit and participate at their leisure. However, auditing students must still pay the full course tuition.

Italian Cinema: Classes begin Wednesday, June 22nd. We’ll meet on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 8:45.  The course will conclude on August 24th (10 two hour sessions).  Classes are offered in a classroom near Indian Bend & Scottsdale Road. The address will be sent to students once they have submitted the enrollment form.

Cost for entire program:   $295.00 with a total of 10 classes of two hour meetings. Payment and enrollment forms are due by Monday, June 13th. Don’t delay and run the risk of the class filling up before you enroll.

Materials are free and will be provided via email attachments. Students will print their own materials and bring them to class. Materials will consist of handouts dealing with each of the films we will view.

Learn Italian through private lessons or group classes in Phoenix, Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, Tempe, Ahwatukee, Cave Creek, Queen Creek, Chandler, Mesa, and Gilbert. Most group classes are taught in Scottsdale or Ahwatukee. Private lessons can be given in any of the other above mentioned cities depending on Davide’s availability.
